Dear Lord -- Thank You for the beauty of Your world. I love to watch the buds starting to bloom, and hear the birds singing in the trees. Help me to never lose my appreciation for Your world. In Jesus' name, I pray.
I've enjoyed my daily walks with my dog, Jessie, much more lately. When we adopted Jessie, she was six years old and not well trained. However, I didn't know how to train her until recently. A friend of mine took the time to "train the trainer" and showed me how I could teach Jessie to walk beside me (instead of pulling me) on our walks. I now look forward to walking beside my dog on our long trips around the neighbourhood.
How can you make your current exercise program more enjoyable?
Tip #28: Use peace as your yardstick
Stop eating the food that you do not have peace about eating, "I know I shouldn't do this but..." When tempted, consider what is going on with you that is difficult to tolerate, or that you are trying to avoid. You need to be led by peace. If you do not have peace about it, do not do it.
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7 NIV.)
Tried a Beaver Tail lately?
Dear Father God -- You are a perfect Father who loves me more than I even love my own children. Help me never to forget this. In Jesus' name, I pray.
This past weekend, I had the great joy to attend a Women's Conference in Ottawa. While there, we had opportunity to walk around downtown Ottawa by the Parliament buildings. I led a tour of three women, and we enjoyed the sites and sounds of the busy market on a Saturday. I was delighted when we happened upon the stand where they sell "Beaver Tails" -- deep fried pastry sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and lemon. Yummy! After walking for an hour and a half, it was a delicious treat to enjoy.
Tip #27 Choose low-fat snacks
Low-fat snacks may include fat-free tortilla chips, pretzels, light microwave popcorn, vanilla wafers, fig bars, dried fruits, low-fat bran muffins, graham crackers, angel food cake and frozen yogurt.
Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV.)

The Hunt for Easter
Dear Jesus -- I pray that my eyes and my ears will always be open to see and to hear You. In Your precious name. Amen
This past weekend, we celebrated Good Friday on the 6th and Easter Sunday on the 8th. This is the season to rejoice as He is risen! However, like Christmas, this holiday has been diluted with other activities like egg hunting. Not that I'm against running and jumping around the house and yard to find hidden candies (it can be good exercise), but it's important not to forget the true meaning of Easter.
How did you celebrate your Saviour's death and resurrection?
Tip #26: Let go of extremes
Do not approach eating as always or never. Foods should not be labeled "good" or "bad". Healthy eating should not be considered "on a diet" or "off a diet". And do not define yourself as a "success" or "failure" based on weight.
Every good and and perfect gift is from above, coming down fromt he Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17 NIV)

Sugar Busters
Dear Father -- I thank You for all that You give me in abundance. I pray that I will never lose my appreciation or gratitude for Your provision. In Jesus' name, I pray.
In the last few weeks, I have given up my habit of eating sugar. Actually, it was starting to feel more like an addiction. So when I gave it up, I treated it like the time I gave up smoking. I had to quit "cold turkey". I cleared my cupboards of tempting treats, and called on friends for advice and prayers. My friends came through with simple recipes, websites to visit, and most importantly, they prayed for me.
Has sugar (or any other foods) become like an addiction to you? How have you handled it?
Tip #25 Make fitness a family activity
Plan a weekend hike, sign up for line-dancing together, coach your child's sports team, go ice-skating at the local community centre, plan a canoeing vacation, take an after-dinner walk, sign up for a mother-and-child exercise class, or go sledding together.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10 NIV.)
